Purpose: to develop measures for the conservation and rational use of recreational and health forests by transforming the consumer orientation of forestry production towards ecologically, economically and socially balanced use of all useful properties of the forest and effective implementation of market mechanisms in forestry practice. Research methods: collection, analysis and synthesis of long-term archival, departmental and literary data; field surveys and research in recreational forests with different stages of recreational digression using the international methodology (IUFRO), as well as forestry, taxation and mathematical and statistical methods. The growing demand for recreation in the Carpathian forests poses new challenges for forest managers, as they need to create recreationally attractive forests. In Europe, in recent decades, many studies have been conducted on public perception of recreational forests and preferences for their characteristics. In Ukraine, such studies are also being conducted, but forests have been considered mostly as a generalized concept. The rich natural resources, economic power, historical and cultural potential, spiritual heritage of the highlanders, and favorable economic and geographical location of the territories are favorable conditions for the broadest possible development of the recreational, tourist, and health sector of the economy. The mountainous regions of the Carpathians possess one third of Ukraine's recreational resources and rank second after the Crimea. This potential is also of international importance.
