The monograph reflects a synthetic picture of settlement and cultural changes in this area, examined by the same methods, with particular reference to the Bronze Age and the early stage of the Iron Age. The land earmarked for the research is the Vyshna river basin of a total area of 1260 km2, of which 226 km2 is located in Poland, and 1034 km2 in Ukraine. The importance of the Vyshna basin is its location between the Dniester and San river basins, and thus between the Black Sea and Baltic Sea basins. It covers the southern part of the so-called Przemyśl Gate – a natural transport route between the Carpathians and Roztochia, on the east-west axis. The book examines in detail the bibliography and archival materials, supplements and verifies surface research, and conducts exploratory excavations at 12 archaeological sites. The content of the monograph consists of sections: Chapter 1. Preliminary issues. Chapter 2. Natural conditions as a determining factor of Prehistoric and Early Medieval Settlement. Chapter 3. Prehistoric Settlements in the Vyshna Basin in the Stone Age. Chapter 4. Settlement of the Bronze Age and the Early Iron Age in the Vyshna Basin. Chapter 5. Cultural variability in the Bronze Age and the Early Iron Age in the Vyshna Basin versus cultural transformations in Central and Eastern Europe. Chapter 6. Settlement in the Basin of Vyshna at the End Of Antiquity and in the Early Middle Ages. Chapter 7. The Vyshna Basin and its importance for prehistoric settlement and intercultural contacts. Chapter 8. Final comments. Chapter 9. Site catalog. The monograph source base consists of 1,771 monuments (505 from the territory of Poland and 1,226 from Ukraine), on which the authors identify 3,612 settlements and locations of material.
