Based on the results of these studies, the main compositions of borate glass and glassnanoceramic and the types and content of doping impurities in them will be selected as new promising materials for OSL dosimeters, including medical 2D and 3D dosimeters for radiotherapy and neutron dosimeters. popup.description2  Improved technology of tetraborate glass with Li2B4O7 composition co-doped with rare earth (Pr, Eu, Sm, Dy) and transition (Ag, Cu, Mn) elements and triborate glass LiB3O5, doped with Ag (LiB3O5:Ag) and corresponding glass nanoceramics (pyroceramics) as promising materials for OSL dosimetry. Local structure, spectroscopic and luminescent properties of the obtained Li2B4O7:Pr, Li2B4O7:Pr,Ag, Li2B4O7:Cu,Eu, Li2B4O7:Cu,Sm, Li2B4O7:Mn,Eu, Li2B4O7:Mn,Sm, and Li2B4O7:Dy,Ag glasses, containing 1.0 mol.% CuO, MnO2, Pr2O3, Eu2O3, Sm2O3, Dy2O3 and 2.0 мол.% AgNO3, were studied by X-ray diffraction, electron paramagnetic resonance, and optical spectroscopy (absorption, excitation, emission and luminescence decay kinetics). Parameters of the local structure in Li2B4O7 and LiB3O5 glasses were determined, electronic structure of impurity rare earths and transition ions in them was established, and their optical-luminescent properties were analyzed. The enhancement of Pr3+ and Dy3+ luminescence in Li2B4O7:Pr,Ag and Li2B4O7:Dy,Ag glasses was revealed, which is due to energy transfer from Ag+ ions and Ag aggregates to the Pr3+ and Dy3+ ions as well as local field effect, caused by surface plasmon resonance (SPR) of metallic Ag nanoparticles. The processes, mechanisms and schemes of the excitation energy transfer between transition and rare earth ions are considered and their influence on intensity and quantum yield of luminescence in all studied Li2B4O7 glasses, co-doped with rare earth and transition elements is established. Optical absorption, excitation and emission spectra of photoluminescence and OSL of -irradiated LiB3O5:Ag glass with Ag content of 0.0, 0.1, 0.5, 1.0 and 1.5 wt.% were studied. It was found that LiB3O5:Ag glass, which has an effective atomic number Zeff = 7.39 close to Zeff = 7.42 of human body tissue, is promising for OSL dosimetry in radiation therapy of cancer patients.
