Research Object – the сhronicle-аttested fortified settlement of Chornobyl and іts outskirts in the 30-Kilometer Exclusion Zone. Research Objective – to determine the structure and plan of the fortifications of the chronicle settlement of Chernobyl and to establish a system of sites of its outskirts. Research Objective – archaeological excavations, archaeological surveys, graphic documentation and photographic recording of discovered movable archaeological artifacts, analytical description of the identified archaeological materials, specialized archaeological methods for recording and dating movable artifacts, scientific processing of discovered archaeological finds, and the creation of inventory cards. In the autumn of 2021, the Department of Archaeology and Heritage Studies continued archaeological excavations at the historical site of Chornobyl. To investigate fortification structures, Excavation Area 4, asuring 8×4 meters, was established. A total of 28 pits were uncovered, of which 20 were examined, yielding 3,727 archaeological artifacts dating from the 11th to the 18th centuries. Among them, 857 items were incorporated into the primary collection. Processing of materials uncovered during the 2021 archaeological excavations of the chronicle town of Chornobyl was carried out, along with the systematization and cataloging of artifacts collected at the Chornobyl site during expeditions conducted between 2003 and 2014. A total of 3,364 artifacts underwent post-excavation processing and were scientifically inventoried. Additionally, 4,411 finds were systematized and cataloged, and 658 ceramic fragments were graphically reconstructed.
