Aim of study: monitoring dynamics of natural processes in ecosystems of Kaniv Nature Reserve and its surroundings for "Chronicle of Nature" program. Tasks: control of ecosystems of scientific object, which is a national property; detection of new and control of populations of vulnerable species and habitats protected by EU Directives; assessment of state of existing and creation of new nature protection facilities; improvement of scientific and practical approaches and methods of maintenance of vulnerable biotopes; development of methods of reintroduction and repatriation of natural plant populations to correct composition of transformed biocenoses, forecast their development; development of practical recommendations for state authorities and local governments regarding preservation of biodiversity and objects of nature reserve fund. The main approach: identification of habitats of vulnerable species and natural complexes, organization of their protection, development of non-invasive methods of research, studies under "Chronicle of Nature" program (Law of Ukraine "On Nature Reserve Fund of Ukraine"). We study biocenoses with rare plant species, establishment of experimental test plots for their restoration, creation of ex situ collections with aim of returning diaspores to nature, methods of reconstruction of natural type of forests at place of artificial plantings; study of territorial complexes of songs of birds, preservation of information flows in biosphere; new methods of spreading environmental education for schoolchildren have been developed.
