The object of this study are the steppe groups of the Ukrainian steppe nature reserve of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. Main methods: stationary and semi-stationary surveys of key areas, profiles, permanent and control areas laid on the part of the protected area, standard geobotanical descriptions, computer synphytoindication, geobotanical survey of key areas, route survey of the protected area. The goal of the work is to study the mechanism of afforestation of reference, relict steppes of the USPZ NAS of Ukraine in order to preserve their features, maximum diversity of biota and stabilization at the level of organization of phytosystems, for which this area became a reservation object. According to the research of vegetation reserves, the basis of spatial changes in recent decades in the group of protected steppes by non-intervention was the mass distribution of woody and shrubby vegetation: Prunetum stepposae, Roseta corymbiferae, Chamaecytiseta ruthenici and tree species, mostly of adventitious origin. Rare forests of Cretaceous forests in steppe areas form full-fledged forest stands, which gives grounds to predict in the next decade the transformation of the "Kreydyana flora" into forest, with small remnants of steppe areas of cretophilous vegetation. The results of research will serve as a basis for the development of a system of new measures for process management of steppe protected ecosystems at this stage of their self-development.
