Among the key challenges are the consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic, Russia’s full-scale war against Ukraine, instability in energy markets, cyber threats, climate change, and growing competition from global players, especially China. European countries increasingly recognize that economic security is not only about protecting domestic markets or ensuring macroeconomic stability, but also about the ability to withstand external shocks while maintaining the resilience of critical infrastructure, supply chains, financial systems, and innovation capacity. In response to these new threats, the EU is actively revising its strategic priorities. These include strengthening energy independence, investing in the green economy, developing digital sovereignty, achieving strategic autonomy in high-tech sectors, and establishing a European Defense Union. A key instrument in this effort is the concept of "open strategic autonomy," which aims to combine economic openness with greater self-sufficiency in critical sectors. At the same time, regional cooperation is becoming increasingly important, particularly in the areas of cybersecurity, anti-money laundering, control over foreign investments, and protection of intellectual property. Thus, economic security in Europe today is not only about protection from threats but also a strategic objective of sustainable development, innovation leadership, and preserving European values in a globalized world.
