Aim of the study: to establish criteria for evaluating of the amelioration functions of forest shelter belts and stands planted in forest reclamation sites. Methodology of the study: mensuration, ecological and physiological, biochemical, mathematical-statistical and other methods. The main advantages and challenges associated with the ecosystem services provided by forest shelterbelts have been investigated. An economic assessment of the ecosystem functions of forest shelterbelts was conducted. A methodology for calculating the value of these ecosystem services was determined, and proposals were formulated for payment schemes to compensate for the creation and maintenance of forest shelterbelts. Additionally, the processes of natural overgrowth in technogenic complexes, the formation of plant communities on various landforms, and species biodiversity on reclaimed lands were studied.
