Purpose of work – advances in mechanical and operational power of structural steel S355 and tool hard alloys for the quality of machining. Research methods – microscopic (optical, scanning and transmission electron microscopy), X-ray diffraction, testing of mechanical and operational powers. It has been revealed that the use of various processing methods can improve the mechanical strength of steel sheets from S355N to S550QL1 without additional costs for thermal processing. TMCP with further AC up to 550 °C, ensuring the best performance and low-temperature resistance by molding a quasi-polygonal/hollow ferrite structure with small particles of dispersed pearlite martensitic/austenitic separate sections. It has been established that, depending on the plasma heating regimes of hard alloys, it is possible to implement various surface modification schemes. The highest values of hardness of hard alloys are achieved due to their plasma nanostructure, which is due to the melting and crushing of the output carbide grains, the saturation of the binder with tungsten and, as a result, dispersed hardenings from the presence of nanodispersed secondary carbides, as well as advances in the adhesive bond of the carbide and bonding phases.
