Determination of the dependence of the leakage current on the total losses of electric energy. popup.description2  The paper considers the parameters of dynamic operating modes of overhead power line insulation depending on the change in the influence of external factors of pollution and wetting of its insulating surface. The leakage currents on the contaminated and moistened surface of the overhead power line plate insulator, the magnitude and degree of contamination of the insulation surface were investigated. The change in the magnitude of leakage currents in the time characteristics after wetting of the surface layer of pollution, to the leakage current in the initial, dry state of the insulator surface, was experimentally investigated. Changes in the magnitude of the leakage current were analyzed depending on which part of the insulating surface of the insulator, the upper or lower, is contaminated and moistened. Calculations of electrical energy losses for the corresponding types of insulators were carried out according to the results of the research, compared with the results of calculations using the current method for calculating energy losses in the external insulation of overhead power lines.
