An analysis of Ukraine's mineral resource base was carried out from the perspective of the criticality and strategic importance of certain types of minerals (titanium, manganese, potash and rock salt, hydrocarbon raw materials); to develop criteria for the search and exploration of new deposits of titanium and zirconium ores, the palaeogeographic conditions for the formation of rich placers were determined; reconstruction of the palaeorelief of the placer formation era, identification of traps for the accumulation of ilmenite-bearing deposits, restoration of the supply paths of material for the formation of placers and changes in the sedimentation conditions, etc.; to develop stratigraphic criteria for forecasting new manganese ore deposits, a precise determination of the stratigraphic position of the manganese ore formation in the Oligocene section of Southern Ukraine was carried out using modern methods of biostratigraphy; reconstruction of sedimentation conditions; determination of stratigraphic, palaeoecological, and palaeogeographic criteria for the distribution of manganese ore deposits. to justify the expansion of the hydrocarbon resource base, studies were performed to determine the spatial and temporal distribution of oil and gas deposits, productive horizons, screening strata, their composition and distribution in the stratigraphic section of the northwestern shelf of the Black Sea by constructing an event-stratigraphic model of the Upper Cretaceous-Paleocene oil and gas complex.
