A universal modular cleaning system with an inertial dust collector and a plasma-catalytic electrostatic precipitator was proposed. The feasibility of a two-stage reconstruction of the sintering plant with the replacement of a battery multicyclone by a modular electrostatic precipitator was substantiated. Dust-settling plates, corona and collecting electrodes were designed, and the geometric parameters of cleaning chambers were calculated. CFD experiments in SolidWorks defined the trajectories of gas flow for maximum dust deposition at minimum hydraulic resistance. Dependencies of the inertial device resistance on gas velocity and its efficiency, ranges of dust loading and particle size distribution, as well as limits of corona charge density, were established. The results of computer modeling were confirmed by direct measurements, showing coincidence of predicted and experimental deposition zones. At PJSC “Prydniprovsky Mechanical Plant,” a pilot electrostatic precipitator was manufactured, and a project solution was proposed to replace battery cyclones with a fine gas cleaning unit “VAV-400/50D,” which reduces the load on the electrostatic precipitator. The obtained results confirm the prospects of implementing a modular sintering gas cleaning system to improve production efficiency and reduce environmental impact.
