Purpose of the work – thermodynamic analysis of the course of chemical reactions in the processes of stepwise reduction of iron from hematite, stepwise reduction of manganese from manganese dioxide, and stepwise and single-stage reduction of silicon from silicon dioxide by the reducing gas CO and solid carbon C, as well as the process of gasification of solid carbon C. The analysis is based on the calculation results of the temperature dependence of Gibbs free energy for reduction reactions (direct method) and oxidation reactions (indirect method) of all substances involved in the above-mentioned reduction reactions. Research methods – Theoretical method (search and generalization of data from technical literature for calculating Gibbs free energy of reactions, including the stepwise reduction of Fe from FeO, stepwise reduction of Mn from MnO₂, stepwise and single-stage reduction of Si from SiO₂ by CO gas and solid carbon C, as well as oxidation reactions such as Fe₃O₄ → Fe₂O₃, FeO → Fe₃O₄, Fe → FeO, Mn₂O₃ → MnO₂, Mn₃O₄ → Mn₂O₃, MnO → Mn₃O₄, Mn → MnO, SiO → SiO₂, Si → SiO and Si → SiO₂, C → CO and C → CO₂, CO → CO₂ by gaseous oxygen O₂), Empirical method (numerical experiment using proprietary formulas for calculating numerical values of the isobaric–isothermal potential of all the above-mentioned chemical reactions; formulation of descriptions, conclusions for each section, and general conclusions for the study), Graphical method (determination of the numerical values of the limiting temperatures for all the above-mentioned chemical reactions.
