New results were obtained for understanding the effect of erythropoietin and IL-2 on biochemical parameters of organotypic cultures of liver, brain and skeletal muscles. Cultivation of organotypic cultures of liver with IL-2 had no effect on the synthetic activity of hepatocytes, increased the activity of ALT, but contributed to the preservation of the integrity of mitochondrial membranes. Erythropoietin at medium concentration had neither a cytoprotective nor a cytotoxic effect. At high concentration, inhibition of the synthetic activity of hepatocytes was observed, but erythropoietin at high concentration exhibited a cytoprotective effect. At low concentrations, erythropoietin also increased the synthetic activity, but also increased the activity of mitochondrial aminotransferases. This may indicate both a cytotoxic effect and an intensification of transamination processes. IL-2 caused an increase in the intensity of glucose uptake in all organotypic cultures compared with control samples. Erythropoietin caused an increase in the intensity of glucose uptake only in skeletal muscle organotypic cultures.
