The purpose of the work is to design and manufacture a hand tool for performing the grafting operation both indoors and in the field on grape bushes to obtain high-quality grape seedlings. Research methods - modeling a three-dimensional model of the device design. The research is aimed at improving the technology of connecting the scion and rootstock to increase plant survival. Special attention is paid to the design of a hand-held grafting device, which ensures the accuracy and convenience of performing operations. The materials and parameters of the knives that affect the quality of the cut and the reliability of the connection of the graft components are also considered. The development of an effective device for grafting grapevines involves the creation of high-precision cutting elements, in particular an omega-shaped knife, which ensures stable cut quality. The main requirement for the design of the knife is to obtain an accurate, clean and symmetrical cut, which guarantees reliable fusion of the rootstock with the scion. The determining parameters are the geometry of the cutting edge, the choice of material, the thickness and the technology of manufacturing the cutting part. Based on the analysis of agrotechnical requirements and operating conditions, a knife design was developed from a thin-profile stainless steel strip with a thickness of 0.3 mm. The use of such material provides high cutting ability, corrosion resistance and the necessary elasticity for accurate formation of an omega-shaped profile. Experimental studies have established that the specific cutting force of grape shoots is within 15.6–30 kg/cm, which must be taken into account when designing cutting elements of grafting devices.
