The purpose of the work is to develop new steel and its processing to obtain a gradient nanostructure with enhanced properties. Research methods are as follows: heat treatment of low-alloy steels, determination of mechanical properties of heat-treated samples, study of microstructure and fracture surfaces of samples using optical and scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffractometry, measurement of hardness and microhardness, computer analysis of microstructure images, modeling of properties of high-strength steels. The composition and properties of high-strength steels in a wide range of carbon content were modeled. For every steel with a fixed carbon content, the content of alloying elements was determined, which is necessary to maintain the martensite start temperature at a given level. The composition of a new steel of the silicon-manganese alloying system was developed. The steel is suitable for heat treatment in any of the main modes: quenching with tempering, isothermal treatment to bainite, quenching & tempering. The optimal mode of isothermal treatment of the new steel was determined, tests were conducted and information on mechanical properties was obtained. The structure of heat-treated samples was studied. The weldability of heat-treated samples was studied.
