The work highlights scientifically grounded approaches to optimizing the application of organic, mineral, and organo-mineral fertilizers in combination with multi-field and ecologically oriented crop rotations. Research conducted on chernozem soils over more than 40 years has made it possible to identify the regularities of the influence of different fertilization systems on the productivity of winter wheat, soybean, clover, and other crops, as well as on the humus balance, productive soil moisture, and the phytosanitary condition of agrocenoses. It has been shown that integrated fertilization systems increase the yield of grain and industrial crops by 10–20 %, contribute to the stabilization of soil humus content, and improve the nutrient balance (NPK). A close relationship was established between the fertilization system, water consumption intensity, and the structure of the productive part of the yield, which allows for more accurate forecasting of crop responses to changing climatic conditions. The application of organic matter in the form of manure or crop residues ensures compensation for humus losses and the formation of a stable soil structure. The relevance of the study is determined by the high degree of land plowing in the Forest-Steppe zone of Ukraine (up to 90 %), which necessitates the introduction of balanced and environmentally safe fertilization systems with reduced anthropogenic risks. Compared with short-term field trials, the long duration of the experiment made it possible to determine the long-term aftereffect of fertilizers, assess the processes of organic matter transformation, and identify trends of soil fertility depletion or stabilization.
