The goal of the project is to develop effective methods of generating powerful laser beams with compact solid-state lasers, primarily for applications in anti-UAV systems. Schemes and experimental layouts (prototypes) of powerful disk solid-state laser modules will be created, including using domestic laser materials, new methods of combining laser beams will be developed and implemented.

The aim of the project is to develop effective methods for generating high-power laser beams using compact solid-state lasers—primarily for applications in UAV countermeasure systems; to create experimental prototypes of high-power disk solid-state laser modules based on domestic laser materials; and to develop new methods for laser beam combining. To model the characteristics of the laser field produced by combined beams, a theory of laser beam propagation in a turbulent atmosphere has been developed. A scheme for incoherent beam combining with physical alignment of the focal spots of sub-beams was investigated, using a diaphragm in a sapphire plate placed at the focus of a condenser lens. This approach enables high-accuracy beam alignment in the far field by precisely positioning the sub-beams in the plane of the sapphire diaphragm. The proposed scheme allows combining 5–7 sub-beams. Studies of beam combination and the efficiency of focusing laser radiation on distant targets yielded new results essential for determining the critical parameters of retroreflective detection of optical systems in daylight conditions. In particular, the minimum required source power and the maximum achievable detection distance under real open-atmosphere conditions were refined. Experimental prototypes of diode-pumped disk lasers were designed and manufactured. Laser diodes with output powers of 750 W and 400 W, respectively, were used for optical pumping. An optical layout of a disk laser with front-surface pumping of the laser crystal was developed, and prototype disk lasers were produced in accordance with the Technical Specification. For Q-switching, a new original design of a passive Q-switch modulator was proposed, employing a binary dye mixture as the saturable absorber to ensure stable operation over a wide temperature range. A patent application titled “Passive Laser Q-switch” has been prepared.
