Identify varieties with enhanced adaptive traits for further use in breeding as sources of tolerance to abiotic stress factors. Determine the correlation between indicators of resistance to water deficit and salinity. popup.description2 Object of the study – varieties and collection samples of winter bread wheat, drought tolerance, salt tolerance. Purpose of the study – using physiological research methods, to investigate modern winter bread wheat varieties of domestic and foreign breeding for drought and salt tolerance at early stages of organogenesis. Research methods – laboratory methods and statistical analysis. Results. The varieties MIP Dovira, MIP Darunok, Turkoaz, Pavlina, T-51 were identified as having the highest tolerance to drought. The varieties MIP Palianytsia Myronivska, Zorepad Bilotserkivskyi, Afina, MIP Aurika, Pavlina, Turkoaz showed increased tolerance to salinity. A strong correlation (r = 0.89) was observed between root length, and a strong positive correlation (r = 0.74) between stem length under different stress conditions, indicating a commonality of adaptive mechanisms to stress factors of different nature. The experiments confirmed that drought and salt tolerance in wheat share a common physiological and morphological basis, with the root system being the main indicator of tolerance to both osmotic and salt stress. A utility model patent No. 158664 “Method for assessing the salt tolerance of wheat varieties at the early stages of organogenesis” has been obtained.
