The subject of the study: varieties and hybrids of domestic selection of tobacco of the Krupnolisty, Burley, Virginia and American variety types; collection samples of foreign selection of the gene pool of the tobacco department. The goal of the project: to create a tobacco variety with valuable economic traits on the basis of selected genetic sources adapted to climate changes in the Transnistrian region of Ukraine and to conduct an immunological evaluation. Research methods: field, laboratory, breeding, immunological, statistical. Theoretical and practical results: A new tobacco variety Virginia 423 was created and submitted for registration to the Ukrainian Institute of Plant Varieties Examination (application No. 2025071001 dated January 31, 2025). After the examination, the name of the variety was changed to Virginia Podilska. The variety is characterized by high productivity - 30-35 t/ha, yield of higher marketable varieties (75-85%), high materiality of the leaf plate - on average 0.450 g/cm2, resistance to diseases and environmental stress factors. Dried raw materials have the ability to absorb sauces and flavorings, and also combine optimal chemical parameters: the nicotine content is 2.09%, carbohydrates - 6.0%, and protein substances 4.62%. During 2024-2025, the spread and development of harmful organisms on breeding material was monitored. Immunity to tomato bronze and high resistance to bacterial blight was shown by the variety sample Fn Montcalne × Burley 38, two samples of Fn Wislica x Zakarpatskyi and Virginia 423 were characterized by high resistance to bacterial blight and tomato bronze.
