The purpose of the study is to improve technological methods of growing fodder beans in the conditions of the Western Forest-Steppe on the basis of the development and justification of effective measures to combat unwanted vegetation and the study of the features of the formation of grain productivity of the crop. Research methods are field, laboratory, statistical. Results - elements of the technology of growing fodder beans have been improved: the features of the growth and development of fodder bean plants depending on the sowing dates and the use of soil herbicides have been identified; the features of the formation of elements of grain productivity of fodder bean plants depending on the technological methods of growing, adaptive to the conditions of the Western Forest-Steppe, have been established. The relationship between the effect of different sowing dates and the use of soil herbicides of different chemical groups has been established. The use of active ingredients propizochlor, 450 g/l + terbuthylazine, 215 g/l – 3.5 l/ha revealed less phytotoxicity to cultivated plants. At the first sowing period, this composition provided the highest productivity: yield 3.58 t/ha, increase to control 1.08 t/ha. Indicators of structural elements: number of beans 6.0 pcs., number of seeds from 1 plant – 15.0 pcs., weight of seeds from 1 plant – 7.02 g, weight of 1000 seeds 463.6 g. The practical value of the work is the implementation of improved technological methods of growing fodder beans, which will provide an additional 0.15–0.30 t/ha of seeds and economic feasibility, which will contribute to the return on invested funds.
