Achieving this goal involved identifying the characteristic features of the processes of social, economic, cultural, and spiritual development of Ukrainian society and the Ukrainian state. Covering the topic required carrying out historiographical analysis, expanding the source base, and highlighting new research directions which the department had not previously pursued (microhistorical studies, the history of everyday life, the methodology of archaeological research, and the history of memory). The chosen directions are complementary to the scientific interests of the executors, source searches, and the relevance of the topic, which is dictated by the need to: Expand the understanding of historical processes in Ukraine over the last 150 years. Study the formation and transformation of Ukraine's civil society. Research various large social groups of Ukraine's population. Realize the non-linear historical development. Overcome the boundary of knowledge-ignorance of the past.
