The largest share of wastewater is in cattle breeding – 55%, pig breeding – 31%, and poultry farming – 13%. Annually, 618.2–7342.5 thous. tons of organic matter are discharged in wastewater, the content of which is highest in cattle breeding – 77% and pig breeding – 22% (2023). It has been established that in the process of biological treatment of pig and poultry wastewater under aerobic conditions, the predominant amount (87–99%) of P, Ca, Fe, Zn, Mn, Al and Cu accumulates in the sediment, while 87–95% of K, Na and B remain in the liquid fraction of wastewater. The content of N, Mg, S, Co and Mo in the liquid and solid fractions of wastewater is balanced in various proportions. As a result of the emission, up to 30% of carbon, 29% of total nitrogen and 41% of ammonium nitrogen are lost. The bubbling of the aerobic process of biological wastewater treatment allows the precipitation of up to 10% more organic substances for the production of solid fertilizers compared to the anaerobic one. However, the aerobic process is accompanied by a more intense emission of ammonia. The developed technological approaches are intended for direct utilization of livestock wastewater or as a second stage in the utilization of by-products of biogas plants and treatment plants with the production of fertilizer components. The resulting granulated processing products contain the necessary content of macro- and microelements for plant nutrition, are transportable, suitable for long-term storage and mechanized application to the soil. The cost of producing organic fertilizer from sewage sludge and additives of plant origin at the material and technical base of the Institute of Agroecology and Environmental Management of the NAAS is 10.5 UAH/kg.
