The recreational load has been taken up by oligo-mesotrophic lakes of the Polissia regions. These water bodies are highly sensitive to anthropogenic eutrophication. A key component of their ecosystems is well-developed stands of higher aquatic plants, which intercept and sequester a wide range of pollutants from their catchments. The excessive recreational pressure observed today leads to the destruction of the integrity of aquatic plant communities and to the near disappearance of hydrophytes that require undisturbed, compact sandy substrates for their development. A study was conducted on the structure and current changes in higher aquatic vegetation in Lakes Bile and Svityaz. Retrospective data series on macrophyte stand structure, recreational pressure, hydrochemical characteristics of habitats, and climatic variables were constructed and analyzed. The response of the shallow littoral vegetated zone to abrupt, localized disturbances causing changes in the structure and quantitative characteristics of macrophyte stands was examined. The recreational carrying capacity of Lake Bile was calculated, and recommendations were proposed for the conservation and restoration of the ecological potential of oligo-mesotrophic lakes. In areas of intensive recreation, natural macrophyte vegetation is eliminated due to trampling, while the abundance of eurybiontic and indifferent species increases. A retrospective NDVI analysis showed a clear trend over the last 37 years toward a decline in mean annual NDVI to near-zero values in the littoral zones of the lakes, even in areas inaccessible to recreationists. Trampling intensity and the density of recreational pressure are the key factors affecting macrophyte vegetation and explain most of the variation in summer NDVI, whereas climatic factors are statistically insignificant.
