Purpose of research: To investigate the nature of the relationship between the productive longevity of Simmental cows and their origin, exterior-constitutional characteristics, the influence of seasonal and age-related factors, and to develop methodological recommendations for creating highly productive herds of dual-purpose cattle in the Carpathian region. Research methods: Generally accepted zootechnical, statistical (including the processing of research results and determination of their reliability), and economic methods. It was established that under the conditions of the foothill zone of the Carpathian region, crossbred cows (Holstein × Simmental) were characterised by higher precocity (age at first mating 18.9 months compared to 24.2 and 27.5 months in purebred Simmentals), higher milk yields during the first and second lactations by 11–38%, but significantly shorter duration of economic use (2.7 lactations compared to 4.6 and 5.4 lactations in purebred Simmentals) and 20–41% lower lifetime milk yield. It was found that the age of first successful insemination has a negative correlation with milk yield during the first lactation. At the same time, a specific positive relationship exists between milk yield in the first lactation and the length of the service period after the first calving (correlation coefficients ranging from 0.299 to 0.491). Between milk yield in the first lactation and lifetime milk yield, a low negative correlation was observed (r = –0.132 to –0.305), indicating that more productive first-calf cows were likely characterised by shorter duration of economic use.
