Registration Date 23-12-2025 Organization Institute of Mathematical Machines and System Problems NAS Ukraine. popup.description1 The overall goal of the project is to provide a new understanding of the key processes of atmosphere-ocean-ice interaction in the Arctic and Antarctic, their reactions and impact on global climate change and their consequences for society and the environment. To this end, a new numerical model of hydrothermodynamics of cavities in the ocean under shelf glaciers will be developed, which will be implemented in the model of ocean circulation and calculations of the processes of formation of deep ocean waters will be performed. The trajectories of Antarctic water masses will be studied using the Lagrangian model. The potential contamination of the Arctic Ocean with radionuclides under the influence of climate change will be estimated using mathematical models. The work is performed as part of a consortium of leading EU research groups in the fields of polar meteorology, oceanography and climatology. popup.description2 At this stage of the project the following tasks were solved: development of a three-dimensional mathematical model of hydrothermodynamics of cavities in the ocean under the ice shelves; implementation of a three-dimensional model of hydrothermodynamics of cavities in the ocean under ice shelves into the SCHISM numerical circulation model; development of a numerical test for the cavern model. The aim of this experiment was to reproduce the circulation induced by the ice pump mechanism and estimations of the ice melting rate. The problem statement corresponds to the ISOMIP 1.01 experiment setup. The obtained on this stage of work results of the development of a three-dimensional model of hydrothermodynamics of cavities in the ocean under ice shelves and its implementation in the numerical circulation model SCHISM were used to simulate the circulation in the Weddell Sea in the subsequent stages of the project.
