A trait-based collection of perennial ryegrass accessions according to agronomic characteristics was created and registered in the NCPGRU. The collection includes 28 accessions from Ukraine and Lithuania, evaluated for 15 traits based on 53 expression levels. Using hybridization methods, individual-family and mass selection, new initial breeding material was developed: for red fescue – 4 hybrid populations and 12 breeding accessions; for perennial ryegrass – 8 hybrid populations and 16 breeding accessions. Based on records and observations from competitive variety trials, one promising red fescue line No. 1776 was identified, which provided green mass yields of 42.3–38.02 t/ha, dry matter yields of 7.98–5.75 t/ha, and seed yield of 0.233 t/ha. In addition, two promising perennial ryegrass lines, No. 2136 and No. 2082, were identified, which ensured green mass yields of 27.3–28.3 t/ha and 28.5–27.6 t/ha, dry matter yields of 6.8–7.2 t/ha and 7.1–6.9 t/ha, and seed yields of 0.47 t/ha and 0.49 t/ha, respectively.
