The object of the study is domestic and foreign varieties of tobacco. The subject of the study is a methodology for creating source breeding materials and a system for assessing the features of inheritance of adaptive and economically valuable traits in tobacco plant breeding, which determines the breeding value of the tobacco gene pool of different geographical origins by a complex of morphological and economically valuable traits and the effectiveness of their use in creating heterotic hybrids. Purpose of the work - the purpose of this project is to develop theoretical foundations for creating source breeding material for breeding high-yielding varieties of tobacco (Nicotiana tabacum L.), adapted to the agroclimatic conditions of the Forest-Steppe of Ukraine. In the conditions of the Forest-Steppe of Ukraine, the features of the manifestation of economically valuable traits of tobacco collection samples under insufficient moisture and high temperatures were studied. For breeding work, new sources were identified based on the morphological traits of plants, yield of raw materials, seed productivity and precocity. The results of the study of tobacco starting material for a complex of basic breeding and genetic traits. The best tobacco variety samples by a set of traits have been proposed for introduction into production and involvement in the breeding process. A system for assessing the features of inheritance of adaptive and economically valuable traits in tobacco plant breeding has been developed, which is based on the study of the results of inheritance of productivity and biometric indicators of the obtained hybrids and will be adjusted by studying the next generations F2, F3 of the obtained hybrids.
