To determine the most productive varieties and hybrids of domestic breeding with high quality indicators for further breeding in order to create new varieties of potatoes suitable for growing with two-crop crops under irrigation conditions in the south of Ukraine, which retain their reproductive qualities, form high yielding productivity and have increased resistance to difficult growing conditions popup.description2 Based on long-term research, a comprehensive system of effective techniques was developed to evaluate potato breeding material and varieties for double-cropping in southern Ukraine. These methods combine traditional morpho-biological and phenological approaches with modern statistical tools for objective verification. In 2025, they identified hybrid E64(E48) as the leader for spring planting (21.4 t/ha) and E55(E41) as optimal for summer (15.3 t/ha), while E67(E49) proved a stable universal hybrid. Hybrids E64(E48) and E55(E41) are most promising for double-cropping, combining high yield with quality marketable traits. Evaluation efficiency relies on the purposeful selection of specialized forms for specific planting dates rather than a single "best" genotype. Spring planting showed peak profitability in early-maturing E64(E48) (118.34%) and E67(E49) (110.18%), surpassing the Slauta standard (69.37%). During 2024–2025, high-yielding hybrids from the Institute of Potato Science were identified: P13.52-11 yielded 26.83 t/ha (+61.7% over standard), while L-9, L-16, and L-13 exceeded 20 t/ha. For summer planting, 1009 (16.22 t/ha) and 15.156-4 (21.9 t/ha) adapted best. Statistical analysis confirmed a strong genotypic effect on yield ($p < 0.01$) and a crucial "genotype × planting date" interaction. Economically, P14.3/5 (190.9% profitability) was most efficient for spring, and 15.156-4 (191.3%) for summer. Scientific and methodological recommendations for evaluating potato varieties for double-cropping in southern Ukraine have been developed. Product Description popup.authors Nadiia P. Kosenko Iryna M.
