Creation of functionally graded titanium matrix materials using hot pressing and investigation of their ballistic properties. popup.description2 Objective: To establish the general patterns of formation of the microstructure and physical and mechanical properties of titanium matrix composites obtained by the hydride approach of powder metallurgy with subsequent hot pressing. Creation of functionally gradient titanium matrix materials using the hot pressing method and study of their ballistic characteristics. The proposed work integrates two complementary research areas. The first covers the fundamental study of the patterns of formation of titanium matrix composites using various high-modulus compounds as a reinforcing phase and using hydride technology for their manufacture. The second area is aimed at adapting synthesis and densification methods traditionally characteristic of ceramic materials (hot pressing) in order to obtain highly densified composite titanium systems. These methods are based on a combination of elevated temperature and external pressure in the densification process. Based on the combination of these approaches, functionally gradient materials based on titanium matrix composites were created by hot pressing, which made it possible to form a gradient of structure and properties in accordance with operational requirements. As part of the study, experimental armor elements were manufactured using the developed technology and their ballistic tests were conducted, which confirmed the prospects of the proposed materials for protective applications.
