The object of research is collection and breeding material of pumpkins of domestic and foreign selection. Research methods – field, breeding, visual, measurement and weighing, laboratory, mathematical and statistical, using proven methodological recommendations for the breeding of pumpkin. A comprehensive assessment of pumpkin collection diversity was conducted to determine its suitability for use in breeding for fruit size, within which sources of fruit size, early maturity, and multi-fruitness were established, based on a combination of high content of crude protein and carotene. Line material of pumpkin was synthesized and studied. A new portioned line of butternut Lekso was created with a set of parameters (105 days, total yield 36.7 t/ha, average weight of marketable fruit 1.6 kg, dry matter content 10.2%). It surpasses its analogue in terms of total yield by 3.7 t/ha (11.2%) and biochemical indicators by 0.6%. The features of the formation of structural characteristics of the productivity of pumpkins and butternut depending on varietal combinations have been classified. A new variety of pumpkin, Karamel, has been created: mid-season (111 days), high-yielding (28.8 t/ha, +7.2 t/ha, or 33.3% compared to the analogue), with portion-type fruits weighing 1.9 kg, with a dry matter content in the fruits of 11.2% and carotene of 9.0 points. The results of creating new portion-type varieties are summarized in the Scientific and methodological recommendations for pumpkin breeding for fruit portion size have been developed.
