The cultivation of chickpea as a high-protein legume crop is a promising direction for stabilizing crop production and strengthening food security. Achieving planned yields of high-quality chickpea seed under irrigation requires optimization of cultivation technology elements with regard to the soil and climatic conditions of the region. The object of the research was the processes of growth and development of chickpea plants, elements of cultivation technology, yield, and economic efficiency. The subject of the research included chickpea varieties Triumph and Skarb, the irrigation system, mineral nutrition, and herbicides. The chickpea cultivation technology under irrigation in the Southern Steppe of Ukraine was optimized through the introduction of adaptive varieties (Triumph, Skarb), a drip irrigation regime (maintaining soil moisture at 80–70–70% of field capacity with an irrigation rate of 80 m³/ha during critical phases of organogenesis), a mineral nutrition system (N₃₂P₃₂K₃₂ in the form of nitroammophoska), and chemical weed control with priority application of the herbicide Racer at 2.0 L/ha combined with seed inoculation using the strain Mesorhizobium ciceri MC 285. Compared with the basic technology, which involves chickpea cultivation under unstable moisture supply, limited herbicide use, and predominance of mechanical weed control, the optimized system ensured an increase in yield to 2.8–3.0 t/ha, protein yield to 820–830 kg/ha, and profitability to 55–56%. This enables the formation of stable and economically viable yields of high-protein chickpea grain during wartime and the post-war period, thereby strengthening food security and the economic resilience of agricultural production in the Southern Steppe of Ukraine.
