Aim of the study: to investigate the molecular organization and polymorphism of 5S and 35S rDNA, as well as genes controlling economically valuable traits, in angiosperm plants and invertebrate animals, and to analyze changes in these genomic regions during speciation and adaptation processes. Research methods – molecular genetic methods (PCR amplification, DNA fragment cloning, sequencing), biochemical methods (determination of enzyme activity and metabolite concentrations), and bioinformatic approaches (DNA sequence analysis, screening of databases). For the first time, the molecular organization of 5S and 35S rDNA was studied in several groups of angiosperm plants and insects. It was shown that rDNA is represented in genomes by several ribotypes with high variability of the intergenic spacer. Differences in regulatory elements of the IGS were identified among taxonomic groups. The high utility of 5S rDNA for phylogenetic studies and DNA barcoding of closely related taxa was demonstrated. Novel genes controlling economically valuable traits (fruit size) and resistance to stress factors in representatives of angiosperm plants and insects were identified, and the molecular organization and evolution of their regulatory and coding regions were analyzed.
