Models have been developed to explain mechanisms by which beta- and gamma-aminobutyric acids (BABA and GABA), melatonin, and gasotransmitter donors influence the germination of cereal grains. It has been shown that pre-sowing treatment of seeds with the above-mentioned PAS activates the mobilization of reserve substances in the grains, which promotes the development of seedlings. The studied compounds also activate the most important plant defense systems necessary for adaptation to high temperatures, drought, salinity and other stress factors, such as osmoprotective and antioxidant systems. The most noticeable protective effects were caused by the treatment of seeds with GABA. The stress-protective effect of GABA on wheat plants at the early stages of development under conditions close to field conditions was tested. It was shown that GABA seed priming had a more significant effect on drought resistance of plants compared to foliar treatment. Also, for the first time, a comprehensive study of the effect of BABA priming on the germination of triticale and wheat seeds with reduced germination and under unfavorable conditions for germination was conducted. The positive effect of BABA on the functioning of the antioxidant system and the synthesis of secondary metabolites was established. The obtained results can serve as a basis for the development of agrotechnologies for priming cereal seeds, in particular, wheat and triticale, with new PAS with stress-protective effects, which will significantly improve the condition of seedlings, especially when they are formed under unfavorable conditions. The use of seed priming by effective PAS will reduce the frequency of reseeding of cereal seeds stored in plant genetic resources collections. Product Description popup.authors Tetiana O.
