The existing chickpea gene pool was screened in order to identify sources and donors of high productivity, resistance and tolerance to pathogens of the most common diseases and to create source breeding material in the conditions of the Right Bank Forest-Steppe. A new source chickpea breeding material was created, on the basis of which three high-yielding chickpea varieties – Octavius, Venta and Legionnaire – with increased resistance to drought and soil acidity, tolerant to the most common pests and diseases were bred and submitted to the State Variety Testing.
