The aim of the research is to identify the causes of destructive legal behaviour among military personnel and to develop mechanisms for the prevention and deterrence of offences among them. Object of research: the system of military discipline, legal and socio-psychological regulation of military personnel behaviour to prevent offences. Subject of research: determinants of levels of legal awareness and psychological factors of unlawful behaviour among military personnel and mechanisms for its prevention and deterrence. The relevance of the study ‘Study of the level of legal awareness and psychological factors of unlawful behaviour among military personnel’ is determined by a number of other fundamentally important circumstances, namely: firstly, in the context of the transformation and democratisation of society, significant changes are taking place in public legal awareness, therefore, a different view of legal awareness from the perspective of a socio-legal society is becoming increasingly important; secondly, there has been an increase in the number of offences committed by military personnel in combat units, which necessitates an improvement in the preventive and educational functions of military personnel; thirdly, the state of legal awareness and legal culture among military personnel does not meet European standards, resulting in indifference among military personnel to legal values and a lack of need and skills to use the norms of law.
