There are – 56 nature reserves and national natural parks in Ukraine, including – 16 in the Carpathian region. As a fragment, it is considered what work is being carried out on the preservation and restoration of the gene pool of rare and endangered plants, animals, protection of mountain landscapes, in two of the 16 National Natural Parks of the Carpathian region. Three approaches that can be successfully applied to the assessment of biodiversity are also considered, both when determining the value of individual types of biological resources and their combinations, and when evaluating alternative options for the development of certain natural areas. It was established that the value of biodiversity, which is the most important natural resource formed during long-term biological evolution and is a source of stability, performs a buffer role in the biosphere, which reduces the negative fluctuations of abiotic factors for all living things. This determines the extremely important importance of preserving the existing biodiversity of natural ecosystems, which ensures their functional resistance to the disturbing effects of environmental factors, including those of anthropogenic origin.
