Registration Date 09-01-2026 Organization National Technical University "Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute" popup.description1 The goal is to justify and develop a compact, energy-efficient autonomous device designed to leverage the synergistic effects of mechanical filtration, ozonation, and UV radiation. This device is intended for water purification from surface sources in extreme conditions, including military operations. popup.description2 A three-stage active autonomous system for the purification and disinfection of drinking water has been developed and studied, designed for use in emergency conditions. The proposed system is based on the combination of mechanical filtration, ozonation, and ultraviolet irradiation, which provides a synergistic effect in removing mechanical, chemical, and biological contaminants from water. An analysis of the quality of surface waters in Ukraine has been conducted, along with a comparison of national and international drinking water standards. The patterns of filtering turbid water were experimentally studied, the optimal conditions for retaining fine-dispersed particles were established, and the operational wear of filtering elements during accelerated testing was investigated. Under laboratory conditions, the influence of ozone concentration and treatment time on biological and chemical contaminants was examined, and effective modes of disinfection and detoxification of water through the oxidation of organic and inorganic compounds were determined. The parameters of UV irradiation were established, under which effective water disinfection is achieved with minimal energy consumption, and the thermal operating modes of the UV module were defined. The combined effect of filtration, ozonation, and ultraviolet irradiation was studied, taking into account the possibility of cyclic water treatment, which allows for improved purification quality without increasing the size of the device. A working prototype of a portable device was developed and manufactured, and both laboratory and field tests were conducted. The quality of the purified water was confirmed by methods of spectrophotometry, chromatography, titrimetry, and bacteriological analysis, which confirmed compliance with regulatory requirements for drinking water.
