Development of modern interdisciplinary theoretical and methodological approaches, identification of trends and phenomena of the process of national and cultural identification in Ukraine in the late XX - early XXI centuries, identification of external and internal factors of Ukrainian`s identity transformation and problems of interethnic interaction, complex analysis of modern aspects and mechanisms of preservation and development of national identity in Ukraine, on the border, ethnic territories and in the diaspora in the context of modern globalization changes and challenges.

The scientific research focused on studying the traditional ethnoculture and language of Ukrainians, socio-cultural and educational societies, interethnic relations, institutional programs, the activities of local communities and the Church, as well as contemporary identification processes and ethnocultural practices that shaped national and cultural identity at the end of the 20th and beginning of the 21st centuries. Scholars have developed interdisciplinary theoretical and methodological approaches to the study of national and cultural identification in Ukraine at the end of the 20th and beginning of the 21st centuries, identify the main trends and factors of identity transformation, analyze the mechanisms of its formation, preservation, and development in ethnic territories, borderlands, and the diaspora in the context of contemporary globalization challenges. The methodological basis of the study is based on an interdisciplinary combination of cultural anthropology, sociology, historiography, and media studies. Archival and documentary analysis was used to study the impact of state policy on the preservation of historical memory and identity, quantitative sociological surveys were used to typologize identities, and structural-diachronic and structural-functional methods were used to analyze socio-historical and ethnocultural processes. Typology and classification methods were used to differentiate forms of traditional culture and ethnocultural practices. The leading empirical methods were thematic interviews, questionnaires, and photographic documentation during field historical and ethnographic expeditions. Scientific novelty — the formation of an interdisciplinary theoretical and methodological toolkit for researching the contemporary ethnoculture of Ukraine as the basis of national identity.
