Registration Date 11-01-2026 Organization Bohdan Khmelnytsky National University of Cherkasy popup.description1 The goal is to obtain new knowledge about the peasant world of the socio-cultural space of Ukraine in the second half of the 19th - the first third of the 20th century, based on the study of a wide range of primary sources, the analysis of the achievements of domestic and foreign historiography, based on the principles of modern methodology, which will be useful for the Ukrainian ideological opposition to pan-Russianism/"Russian peace" in the conditions of the modern Russian war against Ukraine. popup.description2 The content of the topic lies in the fact that the peasant world was a self-sufficient phenomenon and a determining factor in the transformation of the sociocultural space of Ukraine in the second half of the nineteenth century and the first third of the twentieth century. Owing to this, Ukrainian identity was not assimilated by imperial, Soviet, or other identities and has successfully resisted—and continues to resist under contemporary conditions—the ideology of the aggressor, pan-Russism / the “Russian world.” The basic archetype of the Ukrainian political nation—agrarian/peasant culture in its broad sense—demonstrated and continues to demonstrate resilience under extreme conditions, having ensured and continuing to ensure the existence of a distinct Ukrainian nation through nonlinear transformations. The peasant world of that time became the womb in which, during the second half of the nineteenth century and the first third of the twentieth century, the basic archetype of the Ukrainian political nation—agrarian/peasant culture in the broad sense—was preserved. As a result, the social, economic, political, and other institutions of the Ukrainian nation emerged and developed, without which modern Ukrainian identity is inconceivable. We argue that the peasant world is a discrete and variable phenomenon, given the territorial scope of its dissemination, chronological boundaries, features of evolution, and other factors. The sociocultural space of Ukraine within the processes of modernization in the second half of the nineteenth century and the first third of the twentieth century underwent nonlinear transformation. First and foremost, this concerns its peasant world. Product Description popup.authors Oleksandr P. Tryhub Ilnytskyi Vasyl I. lubko Inna M. Anatolii H. Morozov Ihor A. Farenii Berestovyi Andrii I.
