Basing on F1 hybrids from crossbreeding between these lines and varieties we will develop digaploid, homozygous lines and varieties of soft winter wheat with group resistance to rust, smut and powdery mildew by biotechnological methods popup.description2 Research conducted at the Department of Phytopathology and Entomology of the Plant Breeding and Genetics Institute – National Center of Seed and Cultivar Investigation on developing dihaploid homozygous lines with pyramided effective Lr, Sr, Yr, Pm, Bt, and Ut genes for group resistance. This approach enables the combination of resistance to 4–6 diseases within a single genotype, producing donor material for breeding innovative cultivars. Previous studies at the PBGI - NCSCI have confirmed the effectiveness of 7 Lr, 3 Yr, 8 Sr, 5 Pm, 8 Bt, and 2 Ut genes against pathogens of local populations, particularly relevant in Southern Ukraine. Twenty-five dihaploid donor lines have been created, along with a database of their resistance at juvenile and adult stages, serving as the foundation for further breeding work in developing resistant cultivars. Chromosome doubling has yielded 76 lines, of which 70 exhibited resistance to brown rust and 52 to powdery mildew at early phases. 25 lines demonstrated complex resistance (6–9 points) on adult plants throughout the entire vegetation period, indicating oligogenic control of resistance. PLR analysis identified gene complexes: Lr34+Sr58+Yr18+Pm38+Bdv1; Lr68+Lr34+Sr58; Lr26+Lr34+Sr31+Sr58. These lines have been integrated into breeding programs at PBGI - NCSCI as parental forms. The newly developed cultivar Moment (Eritrospermum variety, Ministry of Agrarian Policy application No. 2025012018 dated 28.03.2025) achieves a yield of 8.6 t/ha, protein content of 13.4%, flour strength of 340 u.v., and group resistance: powdery mildew – 8 points, rusts – 7–8 points, bunt – 8–9 points. The cultivar is distinguished by winter hardiness (–18°C), drought tolerance (9 points), and group resistance to causal agents of 6 diseases, providing economic benefits as it requires no fungicide protection.
