Varieties that will be created as a result of this scientific project, along with a consistently high grain yield (5.5-6.0 t / ha), will be more drought- and heat-resistant, resistant to lodging of plants and pathogens of major infectious diseases, resistant to head smut popup.description2 А comprehensive research was carried out on the breeding of grain, sugar, and sudanese sorghum. High-yielding self-pollinated lines, sterile lines, and hybrids were identified, characterized by drought and heat tolerance, lodging resistance, and disease resistance. New varieties and hybrids were developed, providing high yields of grain, green mass, and hay, as well as increased protein, starch, and soluble sugar content in stems. Among them are the medium-early grain sorghum variety Vasyl, Sudanese sorghum variety Dachnyanske 221, and sugar sorghum sterile hybrid Phoenix. Methodological recommendations for sorghum breeding and seed production were developed, ensuring effective implementation of new varieties in agricultural practice. The results contribute to economic efficiency, food and energy security, and the development of bioenergy and fodder resources in Ukraine. The research confirms sorghum’s potential as an adaptive and high-yielding crop, capable of stable performance under changing climate conditions and limited soil moisture. Prepared catalogs of varieties and hybrids, along with scientific and methodological recommendations, support the dissemination of modern technologies among producers and the expansion of high-quality sorghum exports.
