Registration Date 16-01-2026 Organization Frantsevich Institute for Problems of Materials Science National Academy of Science of Ukraine popup.description1 Identification of the most effective strengthening mechanism that gives the novel Al-Mg-Si alloys suitable for producing shaped castings high mechanical properties, as well as mechanisms for the formation of strengthening phases during natural aging directly in the as-cast state. popup.description2 Microstructural studies of Al-Mg-Si-Mn casting alloys microalloyed with the (Sc+Zr) complex were conducted. It was shown that alloying of aluminum casting alloys AlMg6Si2Mn with the (Sc+Zr) complex does not change the nature of the Al+Mg2Si structure. Thermal analysis revealed that when alloying a casting alloy of the Al-Mg-Si-Mn system with the (Sc+Zr) complex, the eutectic melting point practically does not change and only a small eutectic melting interval appears. The two-phase eutectic structure (Al+Mg2Si) is preserved in alloy. Studies of casting alloys AlMg6Si2Mn, microalloyed with the (Sc+Zr) complex, using transmission electron microscopy showed that particles of the Al3(Sc, Zr) phase are contained only in the primary Al dendrites. Dispersed particles of the scandium phase are coherent matrices. For all the obtained alloys of the Al-Mg-Si-Mn system microalloyed with the (Sc+Zr) complex, the mechanical properties were determined, compared with the base alloy AlMg6Si2Mn. It was shown that the applied microalloying allows to increase the strength of the alloy from 205 MPa to 475 MPa. It is proved that the increase in strength by more than 2 times is due to the release of an additional group of finely dispersed strengthening particles Al3Sc after the applied optimal heat treatment of the alloy in the cast state.
