The purpose of the work is to develop and implement a methodology for studying the mechanical properties and radiation damage of structural material samples after irradiation in the active zone of a subcritical assembly. The research method is the study of the mechanical properties of structural materials in the hot chambers of the neutron source facility. A theoretical and experimental study of the mechanical properties and radiation damage of structural materials, such as embrittlement, bending, and strengthening, was conducted. It has been shown that the resource of the tungsten target of the neutron source of the NSC KIPT can be 3.5-4 years of continuous operation at full power of the accelerator-driver. An assessment of the expected resource of the uranium target under irradiation has been carried out. Taking into account the effect of multi-cycle fatigue and the dependence of embrittlement at burn-ups of more than 0.2%, the planned service life of the target is 3 years at full accelerator power. There are practically no advantages of the uranium-molybdenum alloy over natural uranium in terms of plastic properties.
