Registration Date 19-01-2026 Organization State Institution "Institute of Grain Crops" of the National Academy of Agrarian Sciences of Ukraine popup.description1 To substantiate the theoretical aspects of realizing the genetic potential of yield and grain quality of new varieties of winter wheat popup.description2 Object of research – processes of yield formation and grain quality of high-yielding adaptive winter wheat varieties of domestic and foreign breeding depending on weather conditions and cultivation techniques. Aim of the work – to develop theoretical aspects of realizing the genetic potential for yield and grain quality in new winter wheat varieties. Research methods: field, analytical, mathematical-statistical and economic. During 2021–2025, in the conditions of the Northern Steppe, the best winter wheat varieties (based on a comprehensive assessment) grown after black fallow and peas were Liha odeska, Fortetsia, Unika odeska, and Oranta odeska (average yield – 5.29–7.81 t/ha), as well as foreign-bred varieties Emblem, Mescal, and Salem. When sowing winter wheat after sunflower, the more productive varieties (3.18–7.23 t/ha) were Bohdana, Versiia odeska, Dachnianka, Shestopalivka, Avatar, and others. During the reporting period, higher winter wheat yields following black fallow and non-fallow predecessors were formed when sown between September 15 and 30. The best economic indicators (cost per 1 ton of grain, net income per 1 hectare and profitability level) were achieved by those winter wheat varieties that exhibited higher productivity. In the 2024/25 growing season, characterized by elevated air temperatures and a prolonged absence of productive precipitation, which contributed to the development of complex atmospheric and soil drought, a significant decrease in winter wheat yield after non-fallow predecessors was observed. In several cases, the effectiveness of mineral fertilizer application was negligible. It was established that in the 2025 harvest, there was an increase in the proportion of shriveled and small grain, along with the formation of lower test weight indicators, particularly when sown after sunflower. At the same time, the protein and crude gluten content in such grain remained high, reaching 12–15% and 22–30%, respectively. Product Description popup.authors Mykola M. Solodushko Oleksandr O.
