For this purpose the following problems were solved: the influence of production technology factors on the structure and mechanical properties of special gray cast irons was studied; the hereditary influence of blast furnace iron on the structure of castings was investigated; the influence of the composition of charge materials on the structure and properties of special gray cast irons was determined; the influence of heat treatment on the structure of the metal base of special gray cast irons was studied; the influence of modification on the structure of special gray cast irons was studied; the relationship between the structure of graphite and concentration microheterogeneity of gray cast iron was established; the influence of O, N and H on the structure of special gray cast irons was studied; the influence of alloying elements on the structure and physicomechanical properties of piston rings made of special gray cast irons was studied; a mechanism of the hereditary influence of structural and concentration heterogeneity on the formation of the structure of gray cast irons was proposed; recommendations were developed on the technology of manufacturing critical castings from sparingly alloyed gray cast irons for the production of piston rings for internal combustion engines.
