The aim of the study is to establish the nature of the impact of harmful and hazardous production factors on the amount of economic damage to railway infrastructure enterprises and to develop a methodology for assessing the socio-economic effectiveness of occupational safety measures. The research methods used were: collection, processing and summarization of statistical data on working conditions and injuries, and development of an assessment methodology based on mathematical tools. An analysis of the current state of occupational safety has shown that there are a number of socio-economic problems in the railway transport sector. One of them continues to be occupational injuries and occupational diseases. In order to simultaneously improve working conditions and the economic efficiency of the railway transport industry, it is necessary to have a simple and understandable methodology for assessing the impact of working conditions on the efficiency of both individual enterprises and the railway transport industry as a whole. The key levers of the socio-economic impact of occupational safety on the overall efficiency of an enterprise have been identified. A ‘block model’ of occupational safety costs has been constructed. Scientific and regulatory-methodological approaches to the classification and assessment of working conditions have been generalized, risk factors for employees of various railway transport professions have been analysed, and statistics on occupational injuries and diseases have been provided, taking into account the latest data from domestic and international practice. Simplified (for practical application) and more detailed (for investment projects) methods for assessing the socio-economic effectiveness of occupational safety measures have been created, and an algorithm for its implementation has been developed.
