The project will develop: a system of DNA -markers for genes responsible for the type and rate of plant development, and create a database with allelic characteristics of genotypes of soft and durum wheat, barley in loci Ppd-1 and Vrn; a DNA technology for selection of genotypes of soft and durum wheat with certain complexes of gene alleles of brown, yellow and stem rust and powdery mildew, covered and loose smut, as well as viral infections; created test systems for the diagnosis of viral infections of wheat; a database of allelic characteristics of genes Lr, Sr, Pm; a system of DNA markers for the selection of genotypes with high grain quality in the early stages of selection; a database of allelic characteristics of wheat varieties in the locus TaSnRK2.8, which provides improved tolerability; a system of DNA markers for genes responsible for the resistance of sunflower to various types of powdery mildew (Pl), broomrape (Or), enzyme of the amino acid biosynthesis chain (AHAS1); databases on the allelic state of genes of sunflower lines and hybrids for Pl, OR, AHAS genes popup.description2 For the first time, using DNA markers, common and durum wheat cultivars were characterized for alleles of the Vrn-B3 and Ppd-A1 genes; spring barley cultivars of Ukrainian breeding were characterized for alleles of the Vrn-H1 gene. The number of identified common and durum wheat cultivars and lines were significantly increased for alleles of the Ppd-1, ZCCT-1, Dreb1, TaSnRK2.8-A, Gpc-B1, Yr genes and for the Lr34/Yr18/Sr58/Pm38/Bdv1 gene complex; barley cultivars were characterized for alleles of the Vrn-H2, Vrn-H, Ppd-H1, and Ppd-H2 genes; and sunflower lines and hybrids were characterized for alleles of the Pl, Or, and AHAS genes. Using original source material (recombinant substitution lines, recombinant inbred lines, and near-isogenic lines), the effects of alleles of the Ppd-1, Rht8, Rht-B1, Ppo-D1b, Ppo-D1, Glu-B1al genes and of microsatellite loci Xgwm156-5A and Xbarc141-5A were evaluated for earliness, plant height, yield, and yield components under field conditions. The contribution of phenotypic differences in spike pubescence, awn presence, duration of vernalization requirement, and their interactions with alleles of the Ppd-D1 gene to heading time, yield, and its components was assessed. The presence and size of reciprocal translocations were determined in a number of homozygous introgression lines, collection accessions, and common wheat cultivars. A substitution line carrying chromosome 3St of Elymus sibiricus was developed, possessing genes for leaf blade pubescence and resistance to leaf rust. Inheritance of qualitative alien traits was studied after successive backcrosses and under self-pollination. New breeding material was developed, including earlier- and later-maturing analogues of common and durum wheat cultivars; facultative-type analogues of wheat; lines with spike pubescence; introgression lines carrying alien traits; and a genetic collection of near-isogenic lines with traits from other species for genetic research and breeding.
