These clusters enhance the modifying effectiveness by increasing the number of nucleation sites for spheroidal graphite inclusions and prevent the chill formation (white iron) in thin-walled castings structure. It has been shown that copper and nickel are key alloying elements for pearlitic ductile cast iron producing. Copper promotes the fine pearlite formation and increases strength, but reduces ductility. Nickel, in contrast, improves ductility and impact toughness. The combined application of modifying-refining treatment of cast-iron melts using a MgCa-FeSi alloy together with CaF2 and complex alloying with copper and nickel allows to achieve an optimal combination of properties, rendering such ductile cast iron as a universal material for modern mechanical engineering. The use of set of developed basic technological parameters (a steel scrap charge, initial melt premodifying treatment, alloying with 1.0 wt.% of copper instead of more expensive alloying with 1.2 wt.% nickel, and modifying-refining treatment with a master alloy FeSiMg7Ca4) prevents the chill formation and ensures the production of pearlitic ductile cast iron with high mechanical properties (Rm = 850-950 MPa at A = 8.5-5.0 %), which significantly exceed the requirements for the pearlitic ductile cast iron grade EN-GJS-800-2 according to the standard DSTU EN 1563:2018.
