The project envisages to study the trend of transformation of phytocoenotic structure of park plantations, ecological-biological, morphophysiological aspects of plant introduction and adaptation in the changed abiotic environment, to define strategy of development and optimization of park phytocenoses, to develop bases of protection ex situ of rare phytodiversity, rational use of cultivated flora by compiling and correcting of assortments of the most drought-resistant plants recommended for landscaping, park construction and landscape designing. The work’s objectives are to develop the principles of preservation and restoration of the park plantations, landscape compositions and collection expositions of the Dendrological park «Askania-Nova» of the state importance, development of methods of cultivation of arboreal, rare and flower-ornamental introducents, determination of rational ways of their use in the regional landscaping and park construction, and optimal use for scientific, economic, educational and environmental purpose. popup.description2 Research objects – old park tree stands and expositions of the Dendrological park “Askania-Nova”, plant species of European and global sozological status, genus Quercus, flower and decorative introductions Kniphofia, Hosta, Paeonia. The aim of the research is to preserve, enrich and rationally use introduced plants in the context of climate change, to develop ecological and biological principles for the preservation and restoration of park tree stands and exhibitions, research into the adaptive potential of tree and ornamental flower introductions, development of special methods for their cultivation with the aim of creating plantings for various functional purposes, optimisation of human living conditions in the natural and climatic environment of the arid steppe. Research methods – primary and long-term introduction tests, retrospective analysis of changes in species composition and phytocenotic structure of plantings, landscape-compositional analysis, phenological studies of woody and herbaceous plants, morphological and physiological methods for studying the impact of abiotic and biotic environmental factors on the ecological stability of plants, and desk-based data processing. Trends in changes in the taxonomic composition and structure of old-growth stands in the old part of the dendrological park have been established. in 2021 (before the temporary occupation of the territory), the collection of woody and herbaceous plants was enriched, the preservation of rare diversity in culture in southern Ukraine was ensured, and a selection of introductions promising for use in park construction and landscaping was carried out. Reconstruction measures were developed to restore the old park's plantings, assortments of plants of the genus Quercus and the genera Kniphofia, Hosta, Paeonia for use in greening and landscape design in arid steppe conditions, and methods for cultivating plants from experimental genera.
